Upon immediate review, the Patriots made a stellar pick with their first selection of the sixth round when they took offensive lineman Dametrious Crownover from Texas A&M.
The former tight end, who transitioned to tackle in 2022, is a massive addition around Drake Maye, something the Patriots are clearly prioritizing, and despite being picked late in the draft, he has a lot of potential to become a starter, according to multiple analysts.
One draft expert, FanSided's own Mike Luciano, believes that to be true, and, considering who the Patriots have on their coaching staff, it's fair to think Crownover can develop into what the offense needs in a few years' time.
"Crownover is a towering toolsy prospect at 6-7 and 320 pounds. The technique is still a major work in progress, as he has clearly been winning reps on the back of his tremendous movement skill and raw power alone.
The right offensive line coach with a history in coaching technique can turn him into a long-term starter, as there is a level of bend, short-area quickness, and anchor in pass protection that can't be taught by anyone."
The Patriots are going to live and die by the mantra that you can never have too many offensive linemen
Doug Marrone, the Patriots' current offensive line coach, couldn't be a better person to work with a player like Crownover. He might not have succeeded much as a head coach, but you can't argue about how successful he has been in developing offensive lines.
He's been coaching the group since 1993, spending time with the Coast Guard before moving around among several colleges until he finally reached the NFL in 2002, when the Jets hired him as their o-line coach.
Since then, he has served in that role for six different teams, including the Patriots, and it's fair to assume he's seen his share of lineman talent across the board, which makes him the perfect person to coach up Crownover.

Making things better is hearing from the tackle himself after he was drafted, as he shared he has been working on being more versatile across the line to add more dimension to his abilities.
That only makes him an even better prospect for what the Patriots are looking for and need.
