The NFL Draft has come to a close, and the New England Patriots have their new crop of players. From first-rounder Caleb Lomu to non-Combine invitee Karon Prunty, New England has a general idea as to what the bulk of its roster might look like even after these rookie additions. Given their 2025 success, rollover from last season shouldn't come as a shock.
That rollover isn't a given for all teams, however. A fellow AFC East squad has seen an offseason of major turnover. The Miami Dolphins not only found themselves a new GM and head coach, but they parted ways with their starting quarterback, top two receivers, top edge rusher, and top defensive back, all in the name of a rebuild.
Miami held seven top 100 picks before the start of the 2026 NFL Draft, and after moving up and down the board, they would make six selections in the first three rounds.
Alabama lineman Kadyn Proctor and San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson were Day 1's selections, and Jacob Rodriguez, who came 5th in Heisman voting, was selected at No. 43.
While those players might be more hyped, a Day 3 pick could give New England and other AFC East squads trouble for years to come.
Trey Moore is a versatile weapon that the Patriots will have to account for in 2026 and beyond
While Miami still has a long way to go in rebuilding their squad, adding talent on all three days of the draft should always be a priority. Trey Moore was selected 130th overall by the Dolphins out of Texas by way of UTSA.
While Moore has been considered an edge rusher during the pre-draft process, that wasn't his role last season in Austin. From 2024 to 2025, his defensive line snaps reduced by 67%, while his box snaps increased by 793%, and his slot snaps by 153%. He rushed the passer only 120 times this season, but his 22.5% pressure rate was the highest he's had in a single season.
Moore's sack production over his college career has been excellent. He had 8.0 and 14.0 in 2022 and 2023, respectively, during his time at UTSA, and went on to have 9.5 during his first season at UT. This past season, after his role change, he still managed 5.5.
Trey Moore could prove to be a problem for the Patriots
His versatility could prove to be a major issue for New England. With the ability to both stand up and rush as a traditional end, the Patriots could be exposed on blitzes in a major way.
Their offensive line allowed 21 sacks in four postseason games last year, and while upgrades have been made, there are still uncertainties.
Will Campbell must progress at left tackle, and Jared Wilson's return to his more natural center position is new to the line. Alijah Vera-Tucker is a great player when healthy, but his health remains a major question.
While I wouldn't expect the Dolphins to dominate this season by any means, the Patriots should be wary of what a young, hungry team can develop into.
