Bill Belichick might be getting cold feet about accepting position with UNC
The carousel continues to turn, and the updates regarding Bill Belichick's status with the University of North Carolina remain conflicted. While some reports have indicated he's slated to become their next head coach, which will be announced at some point on Wednesday, others claim the two parties are still far apart on some of the most important aspects of hiring a new head coach.
ESPN's Pete Thamel and Chris Low provided the latest on the situation, stating that there are still a few issues that need to be worked out before Belichick is officially hired. One of which involves hiring his son Stephen as his eventual successor.
"Among the looming issues are the potential role for his son and current Washington defensive coordinator Stephen Belichick, North Carolina's NIL resources, Belichick's salary and resources for the staff and reporting structure."
Those are pretty significant aspects of the hiring process that are far from squared away, making earlier reporters seem to be a false alarm. Interestingly, it doesn't appear to be due to reluctance by UNC and more by Belichick himself. Although some questioned the seriousness of his interest in moving to the NCAA, he appeared to be on board with the change.
However, this hold-up could ultimately change the outcome of his decision, especially if UNC isn't willing to fully accommodate his demands.
"Sources added that the "ball is in Belichick's court" and that North Carolina officials are on board with him becoming the coach. A resolution is expected in the near future, sources said."
As reports earlier Wednesday morning suggested, things aren't too far from being done, which is a great sign for the legendary head coach and UNC. But could this be a sign that maybe Belichick is getting cold feet? Is it all his demands or none?
Hopefully, if they really want to work together and move forward with Belichick's plans, this gets resolved sooner rather than later, or the constant rumors won't stop any time soon.
