Going into free agency, Patriots fans knew the offensive line needed to be a top priority, and fortunately, Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf followed through by signing a few intriguing names, one of whom is expected to be their next starting guard, Alijah Vera-Tucker.
The longtime Jet comes to New England with a lot of question marks, mostly stemming from his injury-plagued career, but he is a first-round talent with a high upside that the Patriots couldn't ignore, and he will certainly provide stability, presumably on the left side of the offensive line.
Although Jared Wilson was more than solid at the position during his rookie season, Vera-Tucker's experience will inevitably make the group better while simultaneously helping Drake Maye have more opportunities downfield.
Fortunately, the lineman shared that he's near 100% from his injury, and although he's played nearly every position on the line, he would be totally comfortable starting at left guard for the Patriots.
Alijah Vera-Tucker says he “100%” will be ready to go for the start of training camp, and that he feels “pretty good” about potentially playing left guard in 2026 after moving all over the offensive line throughout his career:

Alijah Vera-Tucker shares good news on multiple fronts during his introduction to Patriots media
As likely the biggest signing for the offensive line this offseason, it's significant to hear that Vera-Tucker is rehabbing well and expecting to play the position the Patriots were hoping he would.
Because they want to see how Wilson will do at center, their newest guard can hold down the left spot and provide the stability that was lacking during the 2025 season.
That will also help Will Campbell, who ended his rookie year with the worst performance of the season in the Super Bowl, and give him someone to lean on instead of trying to do too much.
The best part is the universal belief that Vera-Tucker can return to the kind of production that made him a first-round pick: Pro Bowl-level play as a guard and arguably the best lineman on the Jets' roster for much of his tenure.
If he stays healthy, Vrabel and Wolf have hit the jackpot again with a free-agent signing. It sounds like Vera-Tucker is closer to getting onto the practice field than some initially believed, and seeing what he can do once he does will be exciting for the offense to see in Year 2 of the Vrabel era.
