A.J. Brown has Sauce Gardner crashing out after wild Patriots practice play

One of the most unsurprising parts of training camp with the Patriots so far this summer has been the consistently impressive catches by A.J. Brown, as he has completely lived up to the hype and then some since arriving in Foxboro just two months ago.

The chemistry between him and Drake Maye is apparent, and the excitement about what the duo can accomplish this upcoming season is palpable. That has only grown as the weeks have passed, and seeing their connection for the first time against an actual opponent was a sight on Tuesday, especially in 1v1s.

Brown arguably made one of the best catches of the day against Colts superstar cornerback Sauce Gardner, adding to his summer highlight reel, which will only get better once the season starts.

It might not have been a Moss'd moment, but Brown showcased exactly why the Patriots were willing to give up a future first-round pick to acquire him in a trade, and it has already prompted Gardner to respond on social media.

That's when you know he got dominated on a rep if they have to jump online to defend themselves. But it was just one rep, and it's only joint practice, so it's not that serious, yet this isn't anything new with Gardner, who became known for his social media antics during his time with the Jets.

Maybe that explains a bit about why he felt the need to send out the tweet.

It didn't take long for the cornerback to get on Twitter/X to see that the video of Brown's catch was gaining steam, and, because he was embarrassed on the play, he made sure to downplay what happened and suggested there were other reps when he got the best of the receiver.

In a now-deleted tweet, Gardner had this to say about the play: "all this from a 1on1 rep? & a 8 yard sit route at that? its a reason that's the only one yall saw"

The funniest part about this entire thing is that Brown and Gardner only had one rep with each other, so the cornerback must be referencing his performance against different receivers, none of whom are on the same level as Brown.

That means they don't matter as much in the eyes of the fans, who very clearly know that Brown is the indisputable WR1 for the Patriots, so losing a rep to him means a lot, while beating a player further down the depth chart doesn't.

At the end of the day, this one play doesn't mean a whole lot anyway. But it does prove that Brown can hang with the best of them, even if it was just one rep. It's exciting to see how he fares against legitimate opponents, and it provides a little bit of confidence about what he will inevitably do this fall, specifically for those who are still concerned about his age and lingering knee injury.
