The New England Patriots' offseason was punctuated by a blockbuster trade with the Eagles that brought star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the team. Only the trade of Myles Garrett, arguably the NFL's best player, from Cleveland to the Rams overshadowed the monumental impact of that deal.
The Patriots showed they are in the game to win, and part of that entails providing top targets for Drake Maye. Nothing about Brown has disappointed since he arrived in Foxborough.
He's a consummate professional, and a season from Brown without his logging 1,000+ yards receiving is an aberration, not the norm. Maye had a solid No. 1 last season in Stefon Diggs, but expect Brown to statistically exceed Diggs' 2025 season this year.
Not only has Brown shined in summer camp, but he's also lit up the field with his spirited competition with one of the NFL's best cornerbacks, Patriots' Christian Gonzalez. In addition, he's already demonstrating his commitment and toughness by shaking off a dislocated thumb and keeping right on practicing.

Brown's brushing off that thumb injury, which would have sent many to the showers, is a great indicator of what Patriot Nation can expect from the former Pro-Bowler this season. Maye now has a true No. 1 receiver, and that will spell big trouble for NFL defenses. Brown is a true difference-maker.
Brown spoke about his thumb injury.
"It was tough. I tried to get back into that flow-state zone really quickly because obviously you're going through some pain...The game is what it is, you're going to get bumps and bruises, and you have to keep going. I know it's practice, but I'm not coming out of practice. Thumb out of place? You keep going."
That attitude is reminiscent of the last Patriots No. 1 receiver, Julian Edelman, who retired after the 2020 season. Edelman was an ironman himself, and like Brown, wasn't about to be out of action with any minor injury.
NFL players demonstrate their dedication and grit on the field, both in practice and in real games. Obviously, Brown will be there to contribute whenever he possibly can. It's a truly great sign when your most decorated player, and a newcomer, exhibits this type of esprit de corps right from the outset.
There was never any question about A.J. Brown's talent. During his NFL career thus far, the 28-year-old has shown over seven seasons that he's a bona fide top NFL receiver. Brown's manifold talents will be on full display with Drake Maye, arguably the NFL's best passer, throwing him the rock this season.
Patriot Nation is rightly excited to have Brown catching passes from Maye. And now, Brown's commitment to his new team has also been amply demonstrated. Predictably, the 2026 NFL defenses the Patriots will face won't share that sentiment.
Maye will be poised to rip the NFL apart in 2026. A.J. Brown will be a major factor in making that prediction a reality.
