The Patriots were coming off a massive win over the Raiders heading into their Week 6 matchup with the Jets, beating down a team that had gone toe-to-toe with the Chiefs last Sunday, and the Jets had to leave with their first loss of the season.
The Raiders appear to have overlooked the Patriots, getting smashed 45-17 just one week later, and New England hoped they could keep their current win streak going against the Jets, a team that has played far better than their record suggests.
Divisional matchups are never easy, even for a team like the Jets, as their Sunday performance in Foxboro showed. The Patriots' offense struggled against a strong New York defense, and they again lost a handful of starters to injuries, making the day even harder.
9 instant reactions to Patriots win/loss to the Jets
1. Romeo Doubs is proving to be more of a weapon than many thought he would be after struggling early in the season. He set the tone early for the Patriots with a 42-yard touchdown on their second offensive series, after an A.J. Brown catch was overturned.

2. The impact of having A.J. Brown back in the lineup was felt early, as he drew the safety coverage that allowed Doubs to make that touchdown. That's why the Patriots wanted a clear No. 1 receiver on the roster, and why it's so important that they have one.
3. Injuries, injuries, injuries. This team cannot escape them. Doubs left after his touchdown with a reported shoulder injury, and not long after, Morgan Moses got banged up with an ankle injury. The offensive line has already taken more than its fair share of losses, and although Caleb Lomu can help, the depth takes a hit, coming on the heels of Will Campbell's injury last week.
That hit immediately when Alijah Vera-Tucker went down in the second quarter, forcing Matt Pryor to take over.
4. The Maye/Brown connection needs some work, and that requires patience from all, especially the fans, who want to see explosive plays from the duo. But Brown hasn't played since Week 1, so he hasn't gotten any more reps with Maye in a month. They looked good in training camp, so that's important to remember before going full doom and gloom.
5. Josh McDaniels continues to pull out the tricks, with a triple pass this week after the double pass against the Raiders in Week 5. This time, Rhamondre Stevenson threw a pass to Drake Maye, who then threw to DeMario Douglas for a 10-yard gain; fans have been asking for this kind of trickery after many deemed the playbook "too vanilla" at the start of the year.

6. The first flag of the game for the Patriots came early in the third quarter with a holding call on Hunter Henry. That's a big improvement over last week, when they recorded over 100+ penalty yards against the Raiders.
7. Ball security continues to be a big problem, with TreVeyon Henderson and DeMario Douglas both losing fumbles to keep the Jets in the game. While it's notable that Drake Maye has been better with interceptions, it's not good to see his teammates pick up where he left off with fumbles.
8. Charles Woods hands Geno Smith his first interception of the 2026 season. The fourth-quarter catch stopped the Jets' advance into Patriots territory after a roughing-the-passer flag on Dre'Mont Jones helped move the chains. The 26-year-old continues to have sporadic standout moments this season.

9. Andy Borregales is too inconsistent not to feel some heat on his seat from the Patriots at this point. He missed another extra point this week, and it feels like they need to bring in competition for him and add some pressure on a short week. Missed extra points or field goals can be the difference between a win and a loss, and they can't afford to risk it.
