Despite the amount of conversation being had about Mac Jones and the Patriots this offseason, not much has been heard from the team, whether collectively or from individual players.

Of course, that’s parred to the course for New England, which is known for keeping much of its problems close to the vest. But considering the sheer amount of rumors and speculation over the last few weeks, it’s almost shocking to have yet to hear much from anyone with the team.

That changed earlier this week when breakout linebacker Josh Uche spoke with Tom Curran and Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston and was asked about the rumblings of Bill Belichick shopping Jones this offseason.

"“At the end of the day, it’s up to Bill Belichick to make the best decision for the team. My job is to be a player. To go out there and do my job. So, leaving the coaching decisions up to them, that’s kind of what helped me focus more. And when it comes to Mac, I love Mac. I mean, he’s a competitor. Somebody who I’ve gone to war with and practiced with. I’ve seen his work ethic and his tenacity. I think he’s a dog. That’s me personally, having worked with Mac and knowing what I know about him. Listen, he’s a dog. That’s all I can say, man. He’s our quarterback. And you always wish success on your friends, your teammates, you brothers. You always want to see them be successful. At the end of the day, it’s a collective effort. If everyone does their job to the best of their ability then we’ll get to where we want to be.”"

To some this could be considered as Uche being a good teammate and sticking to the Patriot way of answering questions, which could be true. However, he spoke personally and directly about Jones and shared his feelings about him as a person and player, which speaks volumes especially given the current discussions surrounding the quarterback.

Whether or not Jones will be the starting quarterback in New England next season is yet to be determined, as Belichick recently spoke about a quarterback competition set to happen once practices begin later this summer.

All of the pieces appear in place for him to remain as the QB1, however, with the addition of Bill O’Brien and Adrian Klemm seemingly removing Matt Patricia and Joe Judge from their former positions which hindered Jones’ growth in 2022.

The Patriots will have a lot of sorting out to do, with OTAs kicking off next week and the draft less than three weeks away.
