Daniel Jeremiah released his third mock draft on Tuesday and mocked an absolutely ridiculous player to the Patriots with their 14th overall pick.  I think if the Patriots made this selection, I’d throw my phone through the TV screen.

Jeremiah released his Mock Draft 3.0 on Tuesday, and mocked quite the player to the team.  With the 14th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Daniel Jeremiah selects running back Bijan Robinson to the New England Patriots.

What.

For a plethora of reasons, this would be a terrible pick.  Firstly, the team already has what could become an elite running back stable in 2023 with Rhamondre Stevenson, who I think will pop off in 2023, and James Robinson, a former 1,000 yard back who came over on a two year deal this offseason.

The running back situation is the least of the team’s worries at them moment, actually.

It’s obvious that the most pressing issues for the Patriots coming into the draft are at wide receiver, offensive line, and cornerback.

The team needs to find a true difference maker at wide receiver.  JuJu Smith-Schuster is a nice addition, but is not a true WR1.

New England also signed two tackles this offseason, but one is in his mid-30s and the other is a spot starter.  Neither Riley Reiff nor Calvin Anderson are long-term options at tackle.  The team could trade for Bengals’ LT Jonah Williams, but that isn’t a guarantee.

The other need is cornerback.  The team did bring back Jonathan Jones on a two year deal, but the team needs a true CB1 since enduring JC Jackson’s departure last offseason.

Under no circumstances should this team look to take a running back with their first round pick.  That’s insane.

Hopefully Bill Belichick and the rest of the front office have more common sense than to make that type of selection with their first round pick if it’s not traded for someone.
