The free agency period hasn’t started off well for the Patriots as they’ve already lost No. 1 receiver Jakobi Meyers, but they have brought back several key pieces.

Matthew Slater, Conor McDermott, James Ferentz, Raekwon McMillan, Carl Davis and Jonathan Joseph have all re-signed with the team, giving New England a solid foundation to build upon this offseason.

Even with several players coming back, though, the team has also lost Devin McCourty (retirement) and Jonnu Smith (traded to Falcons) while still having other holes on the roster.

Let’s examine who the Patriots could target without breaking the bank to get them back on track for playoff contention.

But before we get into that, you’ll want to know how you can build your bankroll during a long offseason with a limited-time offer from DraftKings Sportsbook. You might even want to use the money you win to bet on the Patriots!

3 Low-Cost Free Agents New England Should Target

The Patriots are in a tough spot this offseason, stuck between contention and rebuilding. But when you have Bill Belichick and any semblance of a competitive roster, it’s unlikely this team is going to lean into losing games.

So let’s assume New England thinks it can compete in a stacked AFC. These are three players who could help make that happen in an already-diminishing pool of available players.

Juju Smith-Schuster, Wide Receiver

This isn’t an ideal No. 1 wide receiver for any team, but it did work out for the Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

Of course, Mac Jones isn’t Patrick Mahomes and the Patriots don’t have a weapon like Travis Kelce, but adding a wide receiver is an absolute MUST after losing Jakobi Meyers and there aren’t many great names left.

At the very least, Smith-Schuster has proven that he can be excellent at times and is reliable (as long as he stays off TikTok). Smith-Schuster made 78 receptions for 933 yards last season, better marks than Meyers’ 67 receptions for 804 yards.

Adrian Amos, Safety

The Patriots probably could have used help with their secondary even before Devin McCourty announced his retirement.

New England ranked in the middle of the pack in yards allowed (per game and per completion) but ranked near dead-last in opponent passing touchdown percentage.

Amos could help address those needs. The soon-to-be 30-year-old safety made 70 tackles (7 for loss) last season along with a sack, three pass breakups, and an interception.

New England can count on Kyle Dugger at safety, but aside from him, it would need Jabrill Peppers to take a big step forward. Instead of counting on that, add Amos for cheap and help fortify the back end of the defense.

Trey Pipkins, Offensive Tackle

New England ranked in the bottom half of the league in protecting their quarterback last season, and that problem isn’t going to go away if they don’t address it.

Pipkins isn’t the best tackle available, but he shouldn’t command an outlandish payday. The 26-year-old certainly has the size at 6-foot-6, 309 pounds and he allowed just two sacks while committing six penalties all season, allowing just under 12 percent of all pressures on Justin Herbert.

Adding Pipkins would give the Patriots depth at a position that wasn’t a strength this past season.

If you think New England has some moves up its sleeve to make the team better for this fall, you might want to get a jump on the odds and bet on futures bets now.
