According to Jeremy Fowler, there has been “chatter” that the Las Vegas Raiders might try to acquire Mac Jones from the New England Patriots.

Wow, this would be something, wouldn’t it?  Fowler indicates further that the Patriots are unlikely to move him, which is probably the right decision, but I think at the least, the Raiders to call up the Patriots and ask them about Jones.

With Josh McDaniels as the head coach and Dave Ziegler as the general manager, the Patriots’ organization is all over the Raiders’ organization, so both McDaniels and Ziegler were surely heavily involved in the selection of Mac Jones in the 2021 NFL Draft.

With the team essentially giving the bird to Derek Carr, they need an answer at the position, especially being in the AFC West.  I personally think that Carr was far from the issue, but obviously I am not the decision maker over there.

The question could be; would the Patriots consider dealing Mac Jones, and for what price?

If this were to happen, I do think the team could find a competent solution in the meantime.  Both Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo are free agents in 2023, and I’d feel comfortable saying that both are better than Mac Jones, so perhaps there could be light at the end of the tunnel if Jones is dealt.

We can say with adequate confidence that the Pats will be aggressive this offseason, as they’ve already been linked to a potential DeAndre Hopkins’ trade.

Now, could the team go as far as trading away their starting QB to a rival AFC team?  The most likely scenario is that Jones gets a third year in New England with an improved play-calling situation and likely improved offense.

However, if he falters a bit in 2023, changing QBs is a discussion that needs to be had.
