Based on some early reporting coming out of the NFL Scouting Combine, the New England Patriots appear to be going all in for the 2023 season.

This could be nothing, but it could be something.  This and other reporting from Chad Graff indicate that the team is poised to make a big time move for a wide receiver this offseason, but why stop there, right?

"“Patriots’ preference at this point would be to address the position with a veteran rather than using their first-round pick, No. 14 overall, on a receiver.Even if the league has become more devoted to the passing game and even if rookie receivers have produced at a high level (four rookies topped 800 receiving yards last season), Belichick’s preference has always been to use his most prized picks on other positions. Since taking over the Patriots, he has had 14 selections in the top 30 of the draft. He did not use a single one of them to pick a wide receiver.”"

Right?

You see, I think the early reporting during the NFL Combine says nothing but the team going all in.

They have tens of millions of cap space and rank near the top of the league in this category, so they can spend more to bring in free agents like they did two offseasons ago.

They also have a couple of avenues to create some more cap space if they needed.  The team also has their first and second round picks, so not only can they land high prospects, but they can use those high picks to acquire some young players.

All of this is shaping up to the team again being aggressive.  The last major point I think plays a big part here is Bill Belichick being in his 70s and likely not coaching for much longer.  Once Belichick leaves the Patriots, the team won’t be his problem anymore, right?

In a weird way, Belichick should take this all in mentality and run it into the ground.  If it blows up in his face, well, he can step away, right?

I think we should buckle up.
