The New England Patriots need to get more production out of their quarterback position, so a trade for Derek Carr makes sense.  Who is to say the Raiders would not accept a deal involving Mac Jones and Derek Carr?

The Raiders’ GM and HC are former Patriots’ staffers, so the trade itself makes sense in that regard.  Also, we know that the Raiders have all but moved on from Derek Carr, so they are in huge need of a quarterback.

Well, Tom Brady retired, and one could guess that he was their first choice.  Aaron Rodgers might be their second choice, but it’s not likely he plays for another year or two.

I’m also sure that Jimmy Garoppolo could be an option for them, but he’s far from an upgrade over Derek Carr.

You see, I don’t think Las Vegas has gone about this the right way, and I disagree that Carr is on the outs.

Well, the most logical decision for the Raiders might be to try and acquire a younger QB who has a chance to be the long-term option for them.

Also, on the Patriots’ side, well, Mac Jones was not exactly efficient in 2022, and maybe the organization does not want to take a chance on Jones actually regressing in 2022 and not just playing poorly because of the play-caller.

I also do not think they are sold on him being the long-term answer.  He’s a low ceiling player and the AFC East is filled with a ton of exceptional players.

So, could the two teams just do a deal, straight up?  Could the Patriots feel comfortable sending Mac Jones away in return for Derek Carr?  It looks like the Raiders are set to release Carr, but if New England truly wants the player, then they should make Las Vegas a legitimate deal.

A pairing of Derek Carr + Bill O’Brien doesn’t sound to shabby to me.
