The Patriots should trade for Packers’ Aaron Rodgers
The New England Patriots may need more firepower on offense in 2023, and the most logical choice for that may be Aaron Rodgers. This year, the team struggled on offense, to say the least. They managed to go 8-9 in the regular season and were 6-4 at one point.
In response to their failed season, the team brought back Bill O’Brien as the offensive coordinator, which is a great move in my opinion. The next step the team should take is to try and improve the offensive line, specifically at tackle, and find some more playmakers.
Acquiring a certain QB can help solve and even cover up at least one of these issues. Aaron Rodgers, for what appears to be the third offseason in a row, could be available for trade, and this offseason seems more likely that he does indeed get moved.
The Packers failed to make the playoffs themselves and had some similar issues that the Patriots did.
However, even though both teams seemed to go through the same issues, the Rodgers can still play at a high level, and to go even further, the Packers might like the idea of Mac Jones returning in a potential deal.
Rodgers, if he did get traded to New England, would be working with perhaps the strongest coaching staff that he’s played with. I do think he and Belichick would get along, and this move would solve an issue on offense.
Even if the team were to acquire him, they’d still need to invest in the pass catchers. Re-signing Jakobi Meyers is a priority, or at least should be, and perhaps signing another somewhat notable receiver in free agency could be a good idea.
With about $50 million in projected cap space, New England should have plenty of room to make significant moves like this. With Bill Belichick likely not coaching for much longer, why not make a splash move?
This might be the quickest way for the Patriots to get back to their usual dominant ways.
