This past Sunday, the New England Patriots suffered one of the most embarrassing losses possibly in NFL history. Many of the Patriots’ issues became much more apparent throughout the duration of this game. The offense continues to be a concern outside of second-year RB Rhamondre Stevenson. There are very few times when second-year QB Mac Jones has access to throw the ball downfield.

The majority of chunk plays stem from the running game or quick screens and slants. This season, many have witnessed his emotions of Jones get the best of him. There’s no secret he’s not happy with the way the Patriots’ offense is performing, however, it still feels uncertain who to blame.

In the latest press conference, Jones explains that he’s not upset with the offense nor is he upset with Patriots OC Matt Patricia. However, his actions within the past few weeks suggest otherwise.

“No, I think the biggest thing is not letting it affect my play and bringing the best out of the guys,” Jones explains.

Specifically on Matt Patricia: “He called a great game. He’s stayed calm. Matt’s a very calm guy — very stoic.”

Bill Belichick Blasts Patriots QB Mac Jones

The ending to the Las Vegas Raiders was utterly disappointing, however, the most concerning aspect came in the post-game conference with Patriots HC Bill Belichick. Many of the players and coaches are visibly frustrated with how games are playing out.

Belichick appears to be losing confidence in his Pro Bowl QB Mac Jones. After the game, when he was asked why didn’t they throw the Hail Mary at the end of the game, he responded:

“Couldn’t throw it that far,” Belichick said.

Many questioned Belichick’s comments towards Jones because he’s insinuating that Jones’s arm is weak and he can’t throw the ball 55 yards. In his career, Jones has one pass over 50 yards, it’s a 75-yard touchdown to veteran WR Kendrick Bourne. On the throw to Bourne, the initial pass was 30 yards and he ran the other 45 yards for a touchdown.

As a result, when the reporter asked Jones a similar question regarding the Hail Mary, he deflected to his HC.

“I think Coach Belichick makes the coaching decision there,” he said. “So we put a lot of emphasis on it and work really hard at it. Just got to do better execution as players.”
