It’s no secret that the Patriots have been working through a lot since the departure of Tom Brady and, more recently, Josh McDaniels. It’s also no secret that when the team suffers a significant loss, a particularly petty former player always makes sure to chime in about the alleged failures of Bill Belichick.

There has consistently been a lot of discussion surrounding the success of both Brady and Belichick during their 20 years together. Still, that debate has only intensified since the two split up in 2020. The conversation never ends, from whether the coach or the quarterback is more responsible for the dynasty’s success to one of them proving they could remain at the top on their own. The longer the two are apart, the more the debate continues to grow.

Because Brady and Belichick’s seasons have begun unfavorably, they have faced much scrutiny over the last eight weeks. After the Patriots’ blunder against the Bears on Monday Night Football this week and the questionable decisions made by Belichick throughout the game, Asante Samuel reappeared in the news cycle when he took to Twitter to let his feelings be known about his former coach once again.

"“Belichick is starting to show you he is an average coach without Brady.”"

The tweet quickly gained a lot of traction among New England fans. But this time, Tedy Bruschi also took to Twitter to tell him just how laughable his comment truly was.

Samuel’s comments on Belichick are nothing new. Since he left the Patriots after the 2007 season, he has frequently made public statements regarding his former coach and has regularly discredited his involvement in the team’s longevity of success.

The irony of Samuel’s constant belittling is his responsibility for one of the most significant losses in not just the Patriots’ history but all of the NFL. The dropped game-sealing interception on a pass from Eli Manning in Super Bowl 42 led the Giants to beat the undefeated Patriots. And who dropped that pass handing New York the win? Asante Samuel.

Why the former cornerback holds such a grudge toward Belichick is unclear. But continuing the argument of Belichick vs. Brady is old and tired. Typically when Samuel decides to share his thoughts again, the responses from fans online are not the warmest, with most bringing up his infamous failure in the Super Bowl. Seeing an old teammate like Bruschi respond similarly may finally give Samuel a clue to cut the antics and move on.
