Three crazy trades to help New England Patriots: Could DK Metcalf be on the move?

The Seattle Seahawks entered a new era when they traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a boatload of picks and players.

That put into question the future of a few players in Seattle, specifically star wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Metcalf is due for a massive contract extension, likely one that would pay him around $25 million per year.  Seeing that the Patriots still need help at receiver, don’t have a reliable #1 target, and don’t have a great history with drafting receivers, Metcalf could be a fine target.

There are arguments for the Seahawks to keep Metcalf and trade him.  If Pete Carroll still wants to be a part of the process in Seattle, and John Schneider is hanging around, their offensive philosophy of playing sound defense and coupling it with a strong run game could allow them to trade Metcalf while investing that money into other positions.

The Patriots are a very logical landing spot, as is painfully obvious.  The team does not have a #1, alpha-type receiver on their roster.  They do have a nice stockpile of WR2’s and WR3’s, but no one on the roster is a gamebreaker.

The Bills have one in Stefon Diggs, the Dolphins have one in Tyreek Hill, and the Jets could now have one in Garrett Wilson.  Trading for Metcalf and signing him to a massive extension allows the Patriots to cover up their bleak history drafting wide receivers.

Could the Patriots part with their 2023 first and second round draft picks for Metcalf?  They do have the draft capital to pull the trade off.
