Tom Brady’s father cracked a joke about Bill Belichick’s job security after the Buccaneers punched their ticket to the Super Bowl.

Did you really think that Tom Brady leaving the Patriots would derail any chance he had at competing for a championship? While most analysts believed that the Buccaneers had a shot at making a deep playoff run, their inconsistent performance during the regular season suggested they were anything but Super Bowl contenders.

As you can tell by his new teammates’ comments after they won the NFC Championship Game, however, Brady was instrumental in them turning their season around. Amazingly enough, they haven’t lost dating all the way back to Week 12…which ironically came against Kansas City.

For many media members, Brady’s success in his first season away from the Patriots means that he’s “winning” the so-called divorce between him and head coach Bill Belichick, who stumbled to a 7-9 record in his first year without his former quarterback.

Playing off this exhausting narrative, Brady’s father took it upon himself to crack a joke about Belichick’s job security during a recent interview with the Boston Herald. This is the kind of light-hearted stuff we need.

“He’s on a little bit of a hot seat right now,” said Brady Sr.

This joke came in response to a question about him forgetting to express gratitude for Belichick after he went out of his way to thank Patriots owner Robert Kraft for everything he did for Brady and his family during his tenure in New England.

After making light of the situation, Brady Sr. went on to explain that the 43-year-old quarterback and Belichick going their separate ways was best for everybody involved, acknowledging that their relationship had run its course.

"“I thought it was going to be a good move for him whatever happened,” he added. “But I also thought it was going to be good for the Patriots, because that’s what was in the cards. That was the direction it was headed.“They had a great 20-year run, as good a run as anybody has ever had. Without disparaging Bill in any way, I just think it was time. That doesn’t minimize what Bill did. As we saw Sunday night, the coaches can screw up the game.”"

Belichick’s seat is obviously freezing cold, but he’ll certainly have his work cut out for him this offseason in terms of revamping the Patriots’ pedestrian roster. Seeing as though he probably isn’t keen on rebuilding, fans should expect him and the rest of the front office to go on a bit of a spending spree once the new league year gets underway in March.
