Patriots: Tom Brady’s parents recently revealed they battled coronavirus

Former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s parents both recently overcame a serious bout with COVID-19.

Remember during the early stages of the regular season when it looked as though the NFL was going to have to intervene to protect the health and safety of its players, coaching staff personnel and employees? Games were being postponed left and right, and a handful of teams went over a week without practicing due to contact tracing protocols.

In surprising fashion, however, the league’s makeshift postponement approach ended up working out. When all was said and done, the regular season finished on time and the playoffs proceeded without any major problems — though the Browns overcame some debilitating circumstances in Round 1 — and we are now lucky enough to have a box-office Super Bowl matchup.

Speaking of which, Buccaneers quarterback and Patriots legend Tom Brady’s family has unfortunately experienced the harsh realities of the pandemic. During an interview with the Boston Herald this week, Brady’s father revealed that both he and his wife recently battled the  coronavirus.

"“When the (NFL) season started this year, I was in the hospital with Covid for almost three weeks, and my wife was sick with Covid at the same time. We didn’t even see the first two games of the year.“For the first two games when I was in the hospital, I didn’t even care if they were playing — much less missing game. It was a matter of life and death. Just like anybody goes into the hospital, it’s serious stuff. And Tommy fought through it, and so now it’s just in the rearview mirror.”"

Brady’s father noted that his wife, Galynn, a former breast cancer survivor, did not require hospitalization. He also touched on just how much their respective battles preoccupied the 14-time Pro Bowler early in the season. Anybody can understand why that would be the case, but he was extremely stressed out by their conditions and FaceTime’d them before and after practice.

You would never know just how concerned Brady was based on his performance — he was arguably the league MVP through the first month, completing 65% of his passes for 280.5 yards per game and 12 touchdowns to just four interceptions — but his mind simply wasn’t all there during this period of time.

Both of Brady’s parents have since recovered from the virus and they will be rooting for their son to capture his seventh championship in two weeks’ time. Luckily for the Bucs, that means the 43-year-old quarterback can focus all of his attention on game-planning for the Chiefs’ sneaky-good defense.
