Patriots wideout Gunner Olszewski had some fun after the team’s win over the Chargers.

Don’t look now, but Gunner Olszewski is trending toward becoming the next Patriots fan-favorite. Why? He’s got a great personality. He’s clearly got playmaking abilities. He’s one of those odd undrafted dudes who’s no doubt a Bill Belichick project because he used to play cornerback in college … and now he’s a wide receiver/punt returner.

All of that is making its way to the forefront of the discussion. The 24-year-old returned a punt into Cardinals territory (he took it to the house but it was called back because of a flag) that helped the Patriots win last week; he took one 70 yards for a touchdown on Sunday in the win over the Chargers; and he caught his first career touchdown pass later on in the fourth quarter.

Now, he’s giving us some good postgame nuggets to work with because he’s in higher demand among reporters. So if you like hardcore, smash-mouth Patriots football, then you’re going to love what Olszewski had to say about last week’s touchdown getting nullified.

The New England Patriots do NOT play soft! No way in hell, dammit! As a skill position player, Olszewski no doubt boosted his stock among the fans after saying thaat. His rise to Patriots’ stardom truly isn’t far off.

After that serious talk, he decided to take aim at one of his fellow teammates. Chase Winovich, who has been with the Pats just as long as Olszewski, recorded an interception in the third quarter, which was the first of his career. What a day it was for second-year players! Olszewski couldn’t let Wino bask in all the glory for the entire day, though.

And he’s attentive enough from the sidelines to troll his teammates. This guy’s got it all! You know what else is wild? The fact that he led the Patriots in receiving on Sunday with one catch for 38 yards (which went for a touchdown) and had 145 yards on three punt returns. Also, he matched Julian Edelman in this awesome, obscure stat.

A little underdog with a big mouth and enough talent and craftiness to thrust himself into the spotlight after journeying to earn a roster spot while under a microscope of one of the toughest coaching staffs in the NFL?

That’s Gunner Olszewski and there’s no question he’s the next Patriots fan favorite.
