Gunner Olszewski put the Patriots up 14-0 with this awesome punt return touchdown.

This one’s not getting called back! The referees didn’t have an excuse to throw a nonsense flag on Gunner Olszewski’s punt return touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

After the New England Patriots took a 7-0 lead on a Cam Newton one-yard touchdown rush, the defense continued to hold strong, disrupting Justin Herbert and keeping the Chargers’ playmakers in check. A missed field goal also provided some momentum.

Then then special teams unit stepped up once again. Last week, a Donte Moncrief kickoff return and an Olszewski punt return into Cardinals territory set up scoring drives. This time, Olszewski did it all himself on this 70-yard punt return touchdown.

Look at those blocks! Chargers players were getting cranked everywhere you looked, allowing Olszewski to use his speed in the open field. He made a few moves to weave through some traffic, and that was it. 14-0, Patriots.

As every Patriots fan remembers last week, a similar long return by Olszewski was called back at the very last moment when Anfernee Jennings laid out the last Cardinals defender attempting to make the tackle. The refs, for reasons we still don’t understand, called it a blindside block and it cost the Patriots four points (they ended the short drive with a field goal).

Now, the Patriots are swimming in momentum after that return to put the Patriots up two touchdowns.

Pats fans have talked about it time and again. This team needs to find a way to make big plays due to all of the losses in free agency and to opt outs. The offense is largely incapable of driving up and down the field and the defense can only hold its down for so long.

Special teams to the rescue!
