The Patriots are on the board with Cam Newton’s first TD with the team.

You saw Cam Newton’s pregame outfit. Did you think for a second the man wasn’t going to come out and dominate in his debut with the New England Patriots?

Newton is already throwing bullets, and if not for a dropped pass by Julian Edelman, the veteran QB would be perfect on the day. He’s 4-of-5 for 47 and just marched the Patriots down the field on their first scoring drive of the season.

Newton’s also got four rushes for 26 yards … and this sweet touchdown.

He also rushed for a first down on third-and-5 on this same drive to keep the Pats going in Dolphins territory.

On that note, we can see how much the Patriots’ offense has changed with Newton taking over for Tom Brady. There are a lot more read-options. In addition to Newton’s four carries, Sony Michel has five, Rex Burkhead has four and James White has two (as of this writing).

The former MVP is also doing his usual best of spreading the ball around. Edelman, N’Keal Harry, Ryan Izzo and White all have receptions through the first 20-plus minutes of action.

The defense is doing its job and already picked off Ryan Fitzpatrick (though the next drive stalled and the Pats had to punt), so as long as that continues to be the case and Cam keeps getting opportunities in open space, New England fans should have a relaxing afternoon.

He honestly couldn’t look any better based on everyone’s expectations. His mobility looks top-notch and his accuracy is pinpoint thus far. Once he gets in a rhythm, don’t be surprised if he’s back to his former MVP self.

He’s got the weapons on offense and a staunch backing on defense. What a thrilling start.
