The Patriots are using this former Ohio State tight end as a defensive end as of now.

Bill Belichick sees talent in different ways. Whether it’s utilizing former Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman as one of the best receivers in the NFL or finding ways to incorporate former rugby star Nate Eber, the New England Patriots head coach is the best to ever do it for obvious reasons.

His latest experiment could end up paying dividends, too. Former Ohio State tight end Rashod Berry, who actually started his career as a defensive end in Columbus, is now being used as a DE in Patriots training camp.

The team signed Berry back in April after he went undrafted.

But this guy’s got size to play a number of positions — he stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 255 pounds. Though he barely contributed at Ohio State (for whatever reason) in limited reps on offense and defense, he managed to show off his strength a couple of times on the defensive side of the ball.

Apparently that was enough for Belichick to figure he’d make the switch and move Berry back to the defensive side of the ball because … you simply have to use this attribute where it’s going to be most valuable.

If the Patriots didn’t spend two third-round picks on tight ends, perhaps Belichick considers Berry in that spot, but you can even see in that clip (and the numerous others you’ll find by searching his name on social media) that he’s a man among boys. Deploying him on the defensive line to let him wreak havoc would be another coup for the best unit in the NFL.

Maybe the Patriots want to try their luck considering Lawrence Guy, Deatrich Wise Jr., John Simon and others along the D-line will be hitting free agency after 2020. If Berry can show he’s capable in a part-time role, it’ll be another brilliant cost-saving move by Belichick.

Plus, the two are already dapping it up! The relationship is already blossoming.

Ohio State churns out some of the best talent in the country, regardless of position. The fact that Berry was able to play there for five years and contribute while playing two positions says a lot, so watch out for the Pats to finally carve out a role for him to see what he’s capable of.
