A Boston sports radio host actually believes that Jarrett Stidham will start at QB for the Patriots over Cam Newton.

No matter what sort of buzz was reported out of New England throughout the offseason, we refused to believe that Bill Belichick had his sights set on rolling with Jarrett Stidham at quarterback in 2020.

Lo and behold, the Patriots signed Cam Newton, a former MVP who’s out to prove his doubters wrong and is fully convinced that he’s in the best shape of his life. Everybody knows that the 31-year-old superstar will give New England the best chance at being successful this season and is thereby projected to be under center come Week 1, right?

Well, almost everybody. Former Patriots signal caller and current 98.5 The Sports Hub radio host Scott Zolak still believes Stidham will win the starting job.

Nobody loves a hot take more than Boston-based sports radio hosts, but this is a level of nonsense we honestly didn’t think they were capable of stooping to. The Stidham bandwagon was fun while it lasted, but it’s over — at least for this year.

This is literally the sort of “buzz” we were referencing earlier. Nothing has changed in terms of the Auburn product winning the respect of his teammates and coaches. That’s all well and good, but why would the Patriots ever trust a QB that’s attempted four passes in his NFL career over a three-time Pro Bowler that’s been to a Super Bowl? All indications are they won’t.

Furthermore, Newton’s contract includes $3.75 million in playing time incentives, which basically means that he signed with a guarantee that he’ll begin (and most likely finish) the campaign as the starter. From both a football and contractual perspective, Zolak’s take is preposterous.

Newton is the guy in New England, not Stidham. Don’t let anyone attempt to tell you otherwise.
