3 Patriots players who could be camp cuts for financial reasons
At least three New England Patriots players could be cut during training camp or the preseason for financial reasons if they’re not careful.
According to Spotrac, the New England Patriots have the least amount of available cap space left in 2020 among all 32 NFL franchises.
The Pats check in with about $1.8 million available to them still — a far cry from the team with the most space left, the Cleveland Browns, who have about $37.4 million to work with as of this writing.
All in all, New England has 34 players set to hit free agency following this upcoming season. Some of those players will inevitably reach new extensions with the club long before that ever happens, but there also could be some players who the Patriots decide to cut earlier than that as well.
The following three players represent potential cost-saving options should Bill Belichick decide to try and recoup some more cap relief this offseason — cap relief he could use to try and ink a veteran that could still become available before the regular season begins, for example, should another team decide to release them.
None of this is guaranteeing that these players will be released — nor is it even suggesting that they’re on the roster bubble already heading into training camp. These three players just feel like they could be logical candidates for release in order to save money if they don’t do enough over the coming months to solidify their place on the roster.
