Patriots Rumors: Eric Decker hosted for a workout
Recent New England Patriots rumors involve veteran wide receiver Eric Decker, who was reportedly hosted for a workout on Monday.
New England Patriots rumors have picked up in recent days since training camp began. There has been plenty of talk about position battles, such as the offensive line and who will help replace Julian Edelman the first four games of the season. At this point, the Patriots would be happy to have any wide receiver make it to the regular season.
The Patriots wide receiver spot has been hit hard by the injury bug already. Malcolm Mitchell has still not been cleared to practice and his future with the team is up in the air. Kenny Britt has been sidelined with a hamstring injury suffered in June. Jordan Matthews tweaked his hamstring over the weekend.
Just a few weeks ago it looked like the Patriots were set at wide receiver. It was going to be a heated competition to see who would make the roster. However, things are not changing with injuries occurring.
With the injuries, the Patriots have been looking into possibly adding another veteran to the mix. The veteran they have their eye on is Eric Decker.

Earlier in the offseason, Decker appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio and said he would be a good fit with New England. At the time, it didn’t seem that he would be seriously considered.
In addition to Britt and Matthews, the Patriots had also acquired Cordarrelle Patterson in a trade and still have Chris Hogan in the field. Just a few weeks later things have changed, as New England hosted Decker for a workout.
According to Mike Reiss of ESPN via Field Yates, Decker was present for a workout on Monday. In addition to Decker, the Patriots also hosted second-year wide receiver, Devin Fuller. Decker is the player to keep an eye on though given his ties to the organization.
Decker is someone the Patriots have been high on since he entered the NFL in 2010 as a third-round pick of the Denver Broncos. Decker also has some familiarity with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels from his time in Denver.
Given his connections to the organization, and his wanting to play for a contending team, New England and Decker could be a match at this time. If any of the injuries suffered are considered severe, Decker is someone that the Patriots will seriously consider bringing in.
