Recent New England Patriots rumors aren’t very positive as wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell’s future with the team is in doubt.

With training camp just days away, New England Patriots rumors have been relatively quiet. That will change once camp is underway and teams have to trim down their rosters. However, recent Patriots rumors will disappoint some teams.

Wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell has battled injuries during his NFL tenure. He missed all of the 2017 season after injuring his knee. There was hope he could return near the end of the season or playoffs, but that never materialized. Now, Mitchell’s 2018 could be in jeopardy as well.

Mitchell was expected to participate in organized team activities earlier in the offseason. Things may not have progressed as hoped, as Mitchell is now doubtful for the 2018 season as well.

According to Mike Daniels of The Providence Journal, Mitchell underwent another knee procedure. Not only is he expected to miss training camp, his whole season is reportedly in doubt.

Daniels added that a decision has yet to be made, but Mitchell is facing an uphill battle. How the procedure goes could be what determines Mitchell’s future in New England.

Daniels said that the procedure was done to figure out what is causing the pain and discomfort in his knee. Once that is figured out, potentially in the next 24-48 hours, the Patriots will make a decision about his future with the team.

The Patriots have reportedly floated Mitchell out on the trade block to see what they could get for the 26-year old wide receiver. It makes sense to see if a team would be interested in Mitchell, but given his injury history, it is unlikely a team will trade anything of value for him.

Mitchell appeared in 14 games during his rookie season and two playoff games. He was starting to come on at the end of the season, but his career has been derailed by the troublesome knee.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Mitchell, wide receiver is an area of strength for New England. Even with Julian Edelman suspended the first four games of the season, the Patriots are in good shape at wide out.

Chris Hogan should once again be Tom Brady‘s main target. Jordan Matthews will factor in along with Kenny Britt, Cordarrelle Patterson and Braxton Berrios. They should be able to hold things down until Edelman, and hopefully, Mitchell, return to the field.
