Recent Patriots rumors have emerged about the possibility that Rob Gronkowski is still available to be traded for.

As we get closer to the start of training camp, recent Patriots rumors have been about the possibility that Rob Gronkowski might still be on the trade market.

When Gronkowski was undecided about his future in the NFL earlier in the offseason, there were reports that the Patriots were shopping him prior to the start of the NFL Draft. However, just a few days before the draft, Gronkowski did commit to playing in 2018, and that seemed to be the end of the trade rumors.

However, Gronkowski did skip organized team activities, as he seeks to make some more money. So far, no restructure of Gronkowski’s contract has happened this offseason. Despite this, Gronkowski did attend mandatory minicamp.

With training camp closing in, there hasn’t been much talk about Gronkowski’s contract being restructured and this has caused some to think that Gronkowski might still be available to be traded for.

"“Where’s the restructure of his contract?” an AFC personnel executive said to the Boston Sports Journal’s Greg A. Bedard (via WEEI’s Ryan Hannable). “Until that’s done, I think he’s still available. I wouldn’t be surprised if Belichick is going to test Gronk’s buy-in with the contract.”"

This is certainly surprising news that an AFC personnel executive believes that Gronkowski is still available to be traded for. At this point, trading Gronkowski doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Patriots.

With Julian Edelman being suspended for the first four games of the season, the Patriots are going to be relying on Gronkowski heavily without him. Also, there isn’t a tight end currently on the roster that can do nearly what Gronkowski can for the Patriots.

Trading Gronkowski would be a big blow to the Patriots, assuming they moved him for draft picks rather than another offensive weapon. If Gronkowski was traded, the Patriots might be waving the white flag on a chance to play in the Super Bowl this season. Since Tom Brady is back, the Patriots should be focused on getting a sixth ring rather than moving Gronkowski.

With a few weeks to go before the start of training camp, there is still time to get a restructure done for Gronkowski. Even if they don’t get a new deal done, trading him would not make any sense right now.
