New England Patriots Summer Six-Pack
By Hal Bent
With the offseason in full swing for the New England Patriots, here is the latest news surrounding the team.
There was no New England Patriots football this Sunday and there won’t be until September 9 when they welcome the Houston Texans back to Foxboro. In fact, the this current stretch of the offseason is in the final break before training camp with the players and coaches scattered across the country and across the globe.
The Patriots will not get back together again until training camp and the next few weeks are last lull in the NFL calendar. Once training camp begins the NFL rolls non-stop until February.
Despite the lull in the NFL calendar, the NFL marches on. The biggest news has been the Jameis Winston suspension coming out of Tampa Bay. For the third consecutive season the NFL has a star player with a suspension looming (really four if you consider Brady’s suspension looming over two seasons), which is not a good look for the league.
Winston faced the Patriots last season in week five on a Thursday night game at Raymond James Stadium. New England was fortunate to walk off with a 19-14 win as three missed field goals and a final drive that ran out of time. Winston threw for 334 yards (all statistics from Pro-Football-Reference.com unless otherwise noted) flashing his elite skills but also made a few puzzling decisions showing his continued inconsistency in his third season.
With no NFL games this past weekend, there is no reason to let the summer pass without a six-pack and the Patriots. Let’s dive back into the week that was in Foxboro with a six-pack of Patriots news, happenings, analysis and opinion.
