After an offseason filled with drama, New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski, is excited about the season.

One of the major storylines for the New England Patriots this offseason was the situation surrounding Rob Gronkowski. After an injury-plagued 2016 season, Gronkowski was back and healthy for the Patriots last season.

Despite coming off surgery, Gronkowski picked up right where he left off. He was the best tight end in the NFL, and a huge part of the Patriots offense. In 14 games last season, Gronkowski totaled 69 receptions, 1,084 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns. It was the fourth time in Gronkowski’s career that he was able to total more than 1,000 receiving yards.

In the playoffs, Gronkowski played very well as expected. He was able to total 16 receptions, 218 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns. However, he was knocked out of the AFC Championship Game early due to a concussion.

Recently, Gronkowski spoke with Willie McGinest on the NFL Network about the upcoming season. Here’s what he had to say with text via NESN.com.

"“I’m super excited about the upcoming season,” he said. “It’s going to be fun. We’ve got another year, another training camp — always a grind, gotta get yourself through that — (I’m) just excited for the season. “You know how it goes. Another year down, you know what to expect going into Year 9. You know how to do it, so I kind of feel like that’s always good to have in the back of your mind. You know how to do it, you know what to do, so I’m super excited for this year.”"

Seeing Gronkowski excited about the upcoming season is certainly good news for New England Patriots fans. There was a lot of speculation about him possibly retiring this season, and his name was also mentioned in trade rumors.

After skipping OTAs, Gronkowski was back for mandatory minicamp, but was still without the new contract that many believe he desires. In all likelihood, the Patriots will be re-working Gronkowski’s contract to a degree. As the best tight end in the NFL, he is certainly deserving of some more money.
