TAMPA, FL – OCTOBER 5: Wide receiver Danny Amendola /

– Teammates step up for Gronk

During the day on Thursday, it was announced that Rob Gronkowski was not going to play on Thursday because of a thigh bruise. This, of course, looked like it was going to be a huge blow to the Patriots. Gronkowski has had a great season thus far, and the loss of him could have been a huge blow to the Patriots offense. While the offense didn’t look as good as it has the past three weeks with Gronk, they did a good job without him.

Without their best weapon on offense, the Patriots had some of their other weapons step up. Brandin Cooks led the team in receiving yards, as he totaled 85 on the day. In addition to Cooks, both Chris Hogan and Danny Amendola were over 70 receiving yards.

Getting this great production from the wide receivers was very important for the Patriots, as they got nothing from the tight end position without Gronkowski. It is certainly noteworthy that Dwayne Allen didn’t record a reception in a game without the starting tight end. Considering that Allen was brought in to be insurance for Gronkowski, it doesn’t appear like he has much of a role on the team. Luckily, Gronkowski is expected to be back for the Week 6 matchup against the New York Jets.
