We grade four players from the New England Patriots’ third preseason game versus the Detroit Lions.

The New England Patriots emerged victorious for the first time since Super Bowl LI, beating the Detroit Lions in Week 3 of the preseason. New England collected 257 passing yards and 136 rushing in the close 30-28 battle between the two playoff teams.

Several Patriots stood out, aiming to impress in their second last appearance on the big stage. While some players failed to yield positive results, others made strides strong enough to potentially solidify their roster status.

Friday’s contest brought immediate repercussions for some of New England’s players. Starting wide receiver Julian Edelman suffered a torn ACL versus Detroit, additionally, defensive end Kony Ealy, who joined the team in a trade earlier in the offseason, was released.

With Edelman and Ealy no longer in the Patriots’ 2017 plans, opportunities for other players have presented themselves. Those who made the best of Friday’s game — and the summer as a whole — will see the best of those opportunities.

These are four Patriot player grades from New England’s Preseason Week 3 contest versus the Detroit Lions.
