New England Patriots Roster Recap: Quarterbacks
Jacoby Brissett, age 23
Raving reviews from former Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis are as good a reason as any to have high hopes for Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett was taken 91st overall by New England in last year’s draft, a selection that didn’t take long to pay its dividends. After Jimmy Garoppolo left the game with an injury during Week 2 of last season, Brissett came in for the save. In his first career start, the rookie quarterback beat the Houston Texans 27-0. The following week, he was shutout by the Bills 16-0. In two starts under center for the Pats, Brissett posted 400 passing yards, 83 rushing yards, and a 27-yard touchdown run.
With Brady and Garoppolo ahead of him on the depth chart, it isn’t likely that Brissett will see the field often in 2017. His performance in dire circumstances was adequate for a rookie and he’ll improve his craft over time.

Given the interest Jimmy Garoppolo has gained, Brissett could potentially warrant the same demand down the road. If Jimmy departs New England within the next year, Brissett will take over as the Patriots second quarterback. If Garoppolo remains in New England, Brissett may be the next best thing for quarterback-needy teams.
