Barkevious Mingo to Patriots: Reflecting on Patriots 2013 rookie class
1. Joe Vellano (UFA)
Games: 21
Games started: 9
Career stats: 66 tackles, three sacks
Here is the third and final undrafted rookie, rounding out the nine members of the 2013 rookie class that are currently with the Patriots.
Since starting eight of 16 regular season appearances back in 2013, it has been a bit of a rocky road for Vellano. He only played in five games in 2014, starting just once en route to earning a Super Bowl ring. Vellano didn’t make it through Patriots training camp last season, getting the chop on the last day of August. He was off and on the Patriots’ practice squad last fall before joining the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad for a brief spell.

Things look iffy for Vellano right now. He is buried on the depth chart beneath roster locks Malcom Brown and Alan Branch, as well as fellow roster hopefuls Terrance Knighton, Markus Kuhn, Anthony Johnson and Vincent Valentine. Put Vellano in the same sentence as Woodrow Hamilton, but Hamilton is a more likely practice squad candidate because of his youth.
