Today, the greatest quarterback in NFL history turns 39 years of age. While we here at Musket Fire wish Tom Brady a happy birthday, we wonder if Roger Goodell will shoot No. 12 a happy birthday text.

Let’s make a case for both arguments.

Yes. Of course Goodell will wish Brady a happy birthday.

It only makes sense that Goodell will extend kindness to Brady on the one day of the year where it is socially acceptable to pat your enemies on the back. Think about it: Brady is the best player at the hardest position in the history of the sport Goodell supervises. Of course he would pass along a token of respect to such a legend, right?

Predicting Patriots’ final roster, Day 1 of training camp

No. Of course Goodell won’t wish Brady a happy birthday.

Deflategate has severed ties between the Patriots and the league. At the center of the chaos has been two men: Goodell and Brady. Goodell and the NFL were too prideful to let Brady win this game; Brady had the decency to not waste taxpayer dollars on a Supreme Court case involving air pressure in a sport ball. After all these two have been through together in the legal system, Goodell won’t wish Brady a happy birthday.

10 most promising sophomore pros on Patriots’ roster

Let’s say that Goodell texts Brady “Happy Birthday, Tom.” What would Brady do?

Simply, he would look at Goodell’s name pop up on his phone and reply “New number who’s this?” and then get back to drinking his kale smoothie and seething in the corner until Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.

Regardless of what Goodell does on this day, let us wish a happy birthday to Brady as he enters his last year as a 30-something. Here’s to another two, three, maybe even four years of No. 12 manning the helm for the Patriots.
