Now that the Patriots have signed Chris Long to fill the void left by the Chandler Jones trade, they don’t need another veteran pass rusher. Hatcher may have been considered if it weren’t for the quick ushering-in of Long, but he is no longer necessary.

After all, Hatcher doesn’t seem like he’s got much left in the tank at age 33. In two season with the Washington Redskins, Hatcher has amassed just 45 tackles and 7.5 sacks.

The Patriots can go ahead and let the New Orleans Saints mull over the possibility of signing the 10-year NFC East veteran.

It’s also worth noting that the Patriots have promising sophomore pros Trey Flowers and Geneo Grissom coming up through the ranks to provide depth behind Long, Jabaal Sheard and Rob Ninkovich at defensive end.
