New England Patriots kick-off in 13 days: profiling No. 13 Brandon Gibson
Opening day countdowns are great. So are player profiles. Here at Musket Fire, we decided to combine them and create a Week 1 countdown-oriented, jersey number-dictated player profile series. Yesterday we looked at No. 14 Chris Harper, and the day before that it was No. 15 Reggie Wayne. Because today marks 13 days until the New England Patriots open 2015, we are profiling No. 13, wide receiver Brandon Gibson.
Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Gibson had stints in St. Louis and Miami before signing with the Patriots this offseason. In one of the toughest moments of the preseason, Gibson went down with a torn ACL last weekend against the Saints.
Danny Amendola and Gibson were teammates when they both played for the Rams. Here’s what Amendola had to say after the news broke of Gibson being placed on injured reserve:
"It’s really unfortunate. He’s a great football player. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll get his knee back and rehab it and get back out there as soon as he can. Brandon and I have formed a strong relationship over the past five, six years that we’ve been together.Obviously, my heart sank when I found out the news. He has a lot of support in our room and we all got his back. So his spirits are high."
Over the course of his seven years as a pro, Gibson has compiled 233 receptions, 2,711 yards and 13 touchdowns in 76 games (46 starts). His best season was 2012 when he snagged 51 passes for 691 yards and five touchdowns, all career highs.
Let’s wish Gibson a speedy recovery.
In case you missed them, here are the profiles for No. 16 Jonathan Krause, No. 17 Aaron Dobson, No. 18 Matthew Slater, No. 19 Brandon LaFell, No. 21 Malcolm Butler, No. 22 Robert McClain, No. 23 Patrick Chung, No. 24 Bradley Fletcher, No. 25 Daxton Swanson, No. 26 Logan Ryan, No. 27 Tavon Wilson, No. 28 James White, No. 29 LeGarrette Blount, No. 30 Duron Harmon, No. 31 Tarell Brown, No. 32 Devin McCourty, No. 33 Dion Lewis, No. 35 Jonas Gray, No. 36 Tyler Gaffney and No. 37 Jordan Richards.
Be sure to check back on Musket Fire tomorrow morning as we celebrate 12 days until Week 1 by profiling the owner of the No. 12 jersey, quarterback Tom Brady.
