Deflategate: Donald Trump Gets In On the Action, Urges Tom Brady to Sue NFL

It wouldn’t be a scandal if Donald Trump didn’t give us his input. Deflategate has earned another layer, with Trump going on camera and urging the harshly punished Tom Brady to sue the NFL for defamation.

More from Patriots News

By now, you know the stakes. Brady is facing a four-game suspension, the Patriots have been docked a 2016 first-round pick and a 2017 fourth-round pick (a random choice if there ever was one) in addition to the first seven-figure fine ever handed down in NFL history.

Evidently, Trump wants Brady to get together an all-star team of lawyers and throw the book at the NFL for throwing dirt on his name.

The Wells Report is all in the eyes of the beholder. If you hate the Patriots and want to see them surrender their throne as the NFL’s best team, you believe that the Wells Report is evidence enough for Brady’s suspension. If you are a Patriots fan, you think the Wells Report wouldn’t hold water in an ocean.

Trump is asserting that Brady’s public image has been wrongfully egged, and it’s hard to argue with that. Considering that every team in the NFL has been guilty of rule-bending or rule-pushing at some point, it is utterly ridiculous that Brady and the Patriots are being portrayed in the negative light that they are right now. Regardless of your team allegiance, you cannot say that the Patriots would be catching so much flak if they were cellar-dwellers.

Trump is correct; defamation is a serious matter. Brady has worked his entire life to reach the zenith of the quarterbacking trade, and for all of that to be flushed down the toilet due to a media circus and a league that is reactive, instead of proactive, with scandals, is a saddening thought.

The NFL is getting awfully close to hurting the integrity of the game on their own accord.
