I assume you've spent the last two hours reading about Will Campbell, The Football Player. I can't blame you – Campbell was widely-considered the best lineman in this year's draft class, and even with his tiny lil' arms, he'll come into training camp as the team's starting left tackle and one of, if not the, best players on the line. He was a star at LSU, and projects to be a star – somewhere – in the NFL.
RELATED: Will Campbell was only just drafted but has already been a Patriot for months
And the best part? He's already a Boston sports icon. All those fancy college stats? None of that matters. Nothing Campbell ever did on a football field matters one bit. It's very convenient. He's already a Boston sports icon because of one random, very specific fact that explains everything. It's the type of anecdote that makes you want to reach out to your weird uncle in Natick for the first time in three years and share it. It's the type of anecdote that makes you realize that tonight was the first night in what will obviously be a legendary, 20-year run in Boston that mirrors David Ortiz's, Zdeno Chara's, or even [dramatic music reaches crescendo] Tom Brady's. It is THAT big of a deal.
Will Campbell and Bill Russell are from the same town. I repeat: Will Campbell and *Bill Russell* have one small thing in common. If you don't believe in fate at this point, I don't know what to tell you. The fun fact came courtesy of Bill Speros, so shoutout to Bill.

I'm sold too, Bill. I was sold the moment I saw this tweet. I didn't even check to see if it was true (it is, technically) before I was sold. AND Campbell wore green to the draft? Everything's falling into place exactly as planned. Every generation of Boston sports fan needs an icon from Monroe, Louisiana, and now this generation has theirs. Honestly, it's insulting that more people aren't talking about this. I wonder if the Titans/Jaguars/Browns even knew?? If so, that's organizational malpractice.
Will Campbell: immediate Boston sports legend. And he did it with such short arms. The Pats got a good one.
