The Patriots head to Tennessee in Week 9 in hopes of adding another win to their season and continuing what could eventually be a winning streak mid-season. After stealing a victory against the Bengals in the season opener, the team lost seven straight, finally ending the curse by embarrassing the Jets again last week.

During that losing streak, the new regime decided to bench veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett for rookie Drake Maye, and so far, it looks like the right decision.

Maye has brought an energy to the offense that had been lacking and his ability to make big plays and continue them with his feet has kept the Patriots in games over the past few weeks. He was expected to continue that last week against the Jets, but suffered a concussion early in the second quarter and couldn't return.

Fortunately, he has reportedly passed concussion protocol and should be suited up against the Titans on Sunday, hopefully improving their chances of getting another needed win this year.

Referees for Patriots vs. Titans

  • Umpire: Mike Morton (#89)
  • Down Judge: Robert Richeson (#100)
  • Line Judge: Rusty Baynes (#59)
  • Field Judge: Sean Petty (#28)
  • Side Judge: Lo van Pham (#99)
  • Ball Judge: Scott Helverson (#93)

The head official for Sunday's game will be Alex Kemp, who began his NFL career in 2014 as a field judge and was promoted to a referee in 2018.

So far this season, Kemp and his crew have called far more penalties on visiting teams (60) than those playing at home (45), which doesn't bode well for the Patriots this week. It also doesn't help that the home teams have won 71% of those games.

He last officiated a Patriots game during Week 5 of the 2023 season when the Saints wiped the floor with them at Gillette Stadium. Besides being blown out 34-0, they also were flagged five times for a loss of 30 yards, but the Saints were far worse in that regard by racking up 12 penalties for 86 yards.

That would be one part of that game the Patriots could replicate, and it would be a good thing.
