The Patriots are set to have their final faceoff with the Jets this season in Week 8, hoping to have a different result than when they last met in September. Both teams were very different from what they are now, with Jacoby Brissett still being the quarterback for New England and New York being the subject of Super Bowl favorites after their blowout win.

But now, rookie Drake Maye is calling the shots under center and has given the Patriots' offense a much-needed boost. The Jets, on the other hand, have fallen since their win in Week 3 and now hold a 2-5 record.

Hoping to turn things around, they fired head coach Robert Saleh and traded for Davante Adams, but they are yet to reap the reward of their significant decisions.

The presence of Adams will be another player the Patriots' defense will have to account for, which might be tricky with some of their best defensive players not suiting up. On top of that, their offensive line will be in for a new challenge, as Hasaan Reddick will be lining up against them on Sunday, making his 2024 season debut after a lengthy holdout.

Both teams desperately need another win, especially New York, given how disappointing their season has been despite the lengths they've gone to please Rodgers.

It's a good opportunity for New England to add their first home win of the season and raise their depleted morale, which seems to worsen by the week. It would also be significant to help Maye feel more confident and less responsible for the losses, especially since he's been impressive so far.

Craig Wrolstad, who has been in the NFL since 2003, will be the head official this week. He began his career as a field judge and was promoted to referee in 2015.

So far this season, Wrolstad and his crew are averaging 13 accepted penalties each game, with the most flags thrown in Week 5 when handling the Broncos vs. Raiders game. Twenty accepted penalties were called, which seems egregious and doesn't bode well for a penalty-happy Patriots team on Sunday.

Assuming committing less penalties was a point of emphasis at practice this week, it should (hopefully) not be a concern for them again and they won't have to worry about it.

The last time Wrolstad called a Patriots game was during the 2022 season when they visited the Bengals on Christmas Eve. They nearly stole the win after scoring zero first-half points, but they fell short 22-18, adding another loss to a bad season. Eight penalties were committed and accepted by New England in that game for a loss of 62 yards, which didn't fly then and certainly won't work against the Jets this week.
