The New England Patriots may have signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs with the thought he can take Drake Maye to another level, but he has since proven to be more trouble than he's been worth up until this point.

Diggs found himself the subject of much scrutiny after he was seen partying on a boat full of bikini-clad women in Miami, all while holding an unidentified pink substance. This isn't the behavior Mike Vrabel likely wanted to see from a veteran leader fresh off signing a three-year contract worth as much as $69 million.

Diggs finally took some time to address both the media and his new fanbase with regards to what exactly happened on that boat, and his lack of a clear-cut answer will leave many wanting more.

Diggs said that he "can't have too much conversation" about what happened on the boat, adding that this matter is being dealt with on an internal level. Fans will once again be left guessing as to what exactly went down here, as Diggs himself is not giving fans any sort of clarity on this issue.

Patriots WR Stefon Diggs doesn't say much after viral boat video

Diggs may not be the receiver who was tallying 100 catches with his eyes closed during his prime with the Buffalo Bills, but his one-season stint in Houston showed that he can still be a high-end pass-catcher in this league. The Patriots need to hope his knee injury didn't rob him of his lateral mobility.

It's not an exaggeration to say that if Diggs is unable to at least become a low-end WR1 for Maye, this wide receiver room is still in critical danger. Mack Hollins and DeMario Douglas would likely be in for the lion's share of Maye's targets while 2024 possible bust Ja'Lynn Polk and rookie Kyle Williams try to fight for snaps.

Perhaps what is most disappointing about Diggs (at least, in the eyes of the Patriots as an organization) was that 2025 was supposed to mark a return to the quietness and stability that became a hallmark of most of the Bill Belichick tenure. Moves like this are the dictionary definition of starting off on the wrong foot.

Diggs will make fans out of his haters with another 1,000-yard season under his belt, but everyone only gets one shot to make a first impression, and Diggs has utterly fumbled his chance to get in this fanbase's good graces.
