Right to the gut.

There are few members of the New England Patriots who are more beloved than tight end Rob Gronkowski. That's why his latest comments about the best team he ever played for will hurt Patriots fans' hearts.

During an appearance on the 4th and South podcast, Gronkowski spoke in detail about his time with the Buccaneers in the 2020 season. Leonard Fournette, one of the co-hosts of the 4th and South podcast (along with former NFL wide receiver Jarvis Landry), also was on that team so it was a topic that made sense to be discussed.

What Patriots fans won't love hearing is that Gronkowski said the 2020 Bucs were the best team he played on.

“The 2020 Bucs skill set wise, I think that team is probably the best skill set team I’ve ever been on throughout my career,” Gronkowski said. “I mean, we had everyone, dude. We had Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, we had Antonio Brown, [Fournette], myself, Cam Brate, and then our other running back Ronald Jones.”

Rob Gronkowski says 2020 Buccaneers were best team he ever played for

This is pretty painful to hear Gronkowski admit considering all of the talented squads he played for during his time in New England. That being said, it's hard to argue against the logic. That 2020 Bucs squad was stacked and, unlike some of the best Patriots offenses in team history, went on to win the whole dang thing.

Gronkowski also still is a Patriot at heart, choosing to sign a one-day contract with the team to retire as a Patriot. He was only a member of that 2020 Bucs team because Tom Brady had joined Tampa in the offseason and that brought Gronk out of retirement to join his former quarterback with his new team. The rest is history.

It's never fun hearing a beloved Patriots player praise other teams they played for but, in this situation, it does make sense. But when push comes to shove, people will only remember Gronkowski for what he did with the Patriots and not for what he did with the Buccaneers. That's what Pats fans need to keep in mind here.
