Seeing the projected odds being in the Patriots' favor in the week leading to their matchup with the Dolphins on Sunday promoted a smidge of optimism for the fans, especially since the team is not favored for a single other game this season. It was the first time in as long as the memory goes back that they were considered the underdog for every match, and it didn't take long for the odds to swing in the Dolphins' favor again.

Unfortunately, the luck the Patriots might have had on their side went out the window the second they announced that starting center David Andrews was going on injured reserve and would undergo a season-ending surgery. The offensive line has already been problematic enough, never mind how it will be down their best player.

Then there was the claim that the locker room is "teetering on a mutiny" over the continued delay in Drake Maye's taking over as the team's quarterback, which is the last thing the team needs as they hope to continue their rebuild.

The one good thing leading up to this game, however, is the return of wide receiver Kendrick Bourne. He was sidelined from a torn ACL he suffered against the Dolphins in 2023. He will be active for the first time this season for Sunday's matchup and should bring a much-needed boost to the offense.

The head official for the Patriots Week 5 game against the Dolphins will be Adrian Hill, who has been in the league since 2010 and promoted to referee in 2019.

So far in 2024, he has called penalties almost 50/50 amongst home and away teams, which is the best-case scenario for a significant game like this for the Patriots. Hopefully, they can take advantage of that and not commit a long list of penalties like in previous games this year.

Hill last officiated a game for New England last season when they faced the Washington Commanders, losing 20-17 in one of their more promising showings amidst an otherwise forgettable year.
