Rhamondre Stevenson's costly pattern ruins another Patriots drive in Week 3

The Patriots offense is not one to bring on much excitement surrounding their offense, besides the eventual start of Drake Maye either later this season or next. However, one of the stars on the team continues to be Rhamondre Stevenson, who broke out as a rookie and booted Damien Harris from his starting role moving forward.

Since that year, the running back has been one of the most consistent producers, especially once he specifically worked on incorporating the passing game into his repertoire. That has made Stevenson one of the most well-versed runners in the league, and the Patriots have reaped the benefits because of it.

That has remained the case for the 2024 season thus far, as Stevenson racked up 201 yards and two touchdowns on 46 carries through two games. He has been the shoulder Jacoby Brissett can lean on and move the football down the field, which wasn't expected given the state of the Patriots' offensive line.

But an old problem from the early days of Stevenson's career has begun to rear its ugly head again, an aspect that he seemed to do away with during the 2023 season.

He has fumbled the football in the three games so far this year. In the first two weeks, it was able to be recovered. But that luck ran out against the Jets on Thursday night, which led to a quick drive to a field goal for Aaron Rodgers.

It's a habit that seemed broken after his disastrous 2022 season when he recorded four fumbles, many of which Patriots fans can unfortunately remember.

While it's still early enough in the current season for Stevenson not to continue this pattern, it's still concerning, given how much improved the Patriots' offense has been in not committing turnovers, like no interceptions by Brissett so far.
