Patriots' worst-case scenario 2024 NFL mock draft

Round 3, Pick No. 68: QB Spencer Rattler, South Carolina

Passing on a quarterback in the first two rounds seems to solidify that the Patriots are actively choosing to wait to find the next face of their franchise. So why would they draft Spencer Rattler in the third round?

Because this is a worst-case scenario mock draft.

Despite the consensus of wanting a quarterback with the first pick, seeing the team pass on one in the first two rounds would make accepting the new regime's plan easier. It would be clear they were hoping to build up the offense before inserting a rookie quarterback into the mix, which is something plenty could easily support.

But it would be a disaster to flip the script and waste a third-round pick on a prospect who might never develop into a starter.

It would be better to continue down the path of holding off on finding the next guy to take over the offense, even if it's not what anyone is hoping for.
