The Patriots entered the 2024 offseason knowing they were going to draft their next franchise quarterback with the third overall pick and prioritize improving the offense with their other selections and projected high cap space available for free agency.

It was the perfect timing for the significant changes that came beforehand, with Bill Belichick replaced by Jerod Mayo and Mac Jones traded to the Jaguars. It created an opportunity for veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett to return to the team that drafted him and take on a new important role as a mentor to the incoming rookie Drake Maye.

Because they were expected to be starting a dramatic rebuild with the roster, most fans accepted that the team wouldn't be competitive this upcoming season. But with Maye seemingly outperforming Brissett throughout training camp and the preseason, many began to demand the rookie win the starting role.

The coaching staff believed otherwise, hence the announcement of Brissett as the official starting quarterback, which was received with various reactions from New England fans.

Regardless of it all, one of Brissett's most memorable former teammates and a Super Bowl-winning wide receiver believes the quarterback can be the player the team needs him to be, feeling he's back with the Patriots at the right time.

Malcolm Mitchell will be cheering on his former teammate Jacoby Brissett during the 2024 season

During his most recent media tour to reveal his latest children's book, "A World Within Reach," in partnership with Cox Communications to promote online safety and digital access for kids, Super Bowl LI fan favorite Malcolm Mitchell had some optimistic words about his former team and teammate.

Although he was with the Patriots for a short period of time, he was part of a team with Brissett, who made up one-third of the infamous quarterback trio Tom Brady referred to as "The Wolfpack."

Knowing that he will be leading the Patriots' offense this year, Mitchell is ready to cheer on the quarterback and hopes he will be successful in his Foxboro return.

"When I was drafted, there was somebody who was a part of that draft class and his name was Jacoby Brissett. Does the name ring a bell? While I was there my rookie season, Jacoby was there, but shortly after, he went to play for the Colts, I believe. I'm just happy to see him back in a Patriots uniform and wishing him the best of luck. "

But his optimism doesn't end there.

Despite the countless negative takes regarding the Patriots' chances during the 2024 season, Mitchell emphasizes the franchise's history of having a winning culture, and a new head coach won't change that.

"I am loyal at heart. So, my optimism will lead me to say they will find their way. It's an organization with a plethora of tradition. They have a winning culture. They have winning expectations. So whatever changes they make, I will believe it's in the best interest at being who the Patriots are and that's winners."

This should be a mindset that more fans try to adopt. It's better to appreciate the rebuilding process and be optimistic about the efforts to put together a better team in the long run than believe the worst is yet to come.

The incredible success of the Patriots dynasty wasn't created overnight, and good things take time, including building a winning football team. Mitchell knows this firsthand, having been part of the Patriots' Super Bowl LI-winning team, which made history when fighting back from a 28-3 deficit late in the third quarter.
