Patriots should continue to keep QB Mac Jones in the lineup for this reason

The New England Patriots now have the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft as their record fell to 2-6 in Week 8. For this huge reason, the team needs to keep Mac Jones in the lineup. Teams who are 2-6 with a third-year QB don't have a viable QB for the long-term. It's time to accept the reality with this team: Mac Jones is not the guy, and the excuses need to stop.

He can have a nice 10-year career as a backup QB somewhere and occasionally be a spot-starter, but the New England Patriots are going nowhere but down with Mac Jones under center, and honestly, that might be what they need to do for the rest of the season. You see, keeping Mac Jones in the lineup in spite of his horrible 2023 season may only help them in the long-run.

On the season, Jones has thrown nine touchdowns, eight interceptions, and has a passer rating of 82.5. He's not getting better as the offense grows into the Bill O'Brien scheme. In fact, he seems to be getting worse. If the Patriots take Mac Jones out of the lineup, they risk winning more games. Yes, I know that sounds absolutely ridiculous, but any chance at a turnaround after beating the Buffalo Bills is gone.

They got largely embarrassed by the Miami Dolphins and have continued to show next to nothing on both sides of the ball. Bill Belichick needs to embrace the "tank" for the rest of the season at this point. Right now, with the Carolina Panthers winning in Week 8, the Patriots are just one loss away from having the worst record in the NFL, which could lead them into a top QB prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft.

That is how this team gets fixed; they need to acquire a top QB prospect like Drake Maye or Caleb Williams, and with each loss, they get closer and closer. Keeping Mac Jones in the lineup only helps this cause, and obviously he has no trade value, so a potential trade wouldn't really benefit the team at all.

What do you think? Does this sound insane?
