Julian Edelman is finally excited about the Patriots again

It's no secret that most former Patriots players were not too fond of how things were going with the team over the last few years, with most defending Bill Belichick and blaming Mac Jones for the offense's woes.

The last two seasons were unlike any we've seen from the legendary head coach, which shocked anyone who had watched the 20 years of dominance over the rest of the NFL. There was a lack of excitement surrounding the team and their potential, with a few players becoming vocal about their disappointment.

One of the more prominent voices of all being retired wide receiver Julian Edelman.

It's hard to blame him for most of his takes, especially given how poorly his former team has been playing lately. However, his most recent comments about the current state of the Patriots are a lot easier to get behind, mainly what he's had to say about Drake Maye.

“This is a quarterback league. Ultimately, it’s going to come down to the guys who are developing him. … It’s gonna come down to this offensive staff to get him going. They have a lot of holes, but the quarterback in this day and age is probably the most important role. I’m excited with Drake Maye.

“...I think having Jacoby Brissett as his backup is a great guy for Drake to learn from. Jacoby’s been around the block. He’s won football games in the National Football League for multiple teams, and he’s a professional."

Even better, Edelman is not just a believer in the quarterback room in Foxboro and their new head coach. He also believes the Patriots could surprise people this season and prove they're not destined for failure like much of the media has been claiming.

“I’m excited for the situation that they’re in. A lot of people are saying they’re gonna be terrible, this and that, whatever. This is the National Football League. Everyone gets paid. A lot of crazy things can happen. I’m excited for this upcoming season for the Pats.”
