Speculation about the team that formerly dominated the AFC and the NFL, the New England Patriots, is rife. Since Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft foolhardily allowed the greatest player of all time, Tom Brady, to leave, it's been a rapid descent to the bottom of the once-dominated AFC East.

That blunder cost Belichick his job and Kraft his lofty status as the owner of the best franchise in the NFL. How far the mighty have fallen. But this is a new era, and with quarterback Drake Maye on hand, his receivers will be getting lots of attention. One already getting noticed is fellow rookie Ja'Lynn Polk, who's even projected as the Patriots WR1.

In a prediction article, profootballnetwork.com has commented on Polk’s possible achievements in 2024. It’s some startling stuff. So let’s take a look and see if they’re onto something with the former Washington Huskies' star receiver.

Polk is predicted to have a 1000-yard+ season

In a wild, but not entirely out-of-the-realm-of-possibility prediction, Pro Football Network has gone out on a limb and tabbed Polk as a thousand-yard plus receiver for the Pats in 2024.

Here's what they prognosticate about the Pats rookie wideout,

“a’Lynn Polk Will Eclipse 1,000 Yards

Ja’Lynn Polk might never develop into a No. 1 target. His ceiling might be that of a faster, more explosive Jakobi Meyers, who’s a very good player.

The second-round rookie receiver looked great during spring practices. He was sure handed, ran great routes, and carried himself like a pro. He also was taller and faster in person than as advertised.

It’s easy to envision Polk earning a big role right away, partly because the Patriots might not have other viable options beyond DeMario Douglas. If Polk stays healthy, he could be a target hog and put up impressive numbers as a rookie.”

That’s a top compliment for a rookie who hasn't yet seen an NFL field. Yet, it might not be as out of the question as it may initially seem. Let’s explore this suggestion and see if the facts back up the speculation. If they do and he does what's suggested, he'll be a great addition to the Patriots.

First, Polk was a prolific receiver at the University of Washington. In 15 games in 2023, he grabbed 69 passes for 1159 yards and nine TDs. Those aren't numbers to be scoffed at. He also did that with two
other top receivers in the high-powered Washington offense.

For the Pats, that will hardly be the case. Polk will likely slot in immediately at the X or Z receiver position, depending on how well fellow rookie Javon Baker performs. At either position, he’ll be a go-to guy for quarterback Drake Maye (hopefully) in the revamped Patriots offense.

Along with DeMario Douglas, expectations that he may be the Patriots’ best aren't over the top, especially since Kendrick Bourne is coming off a serious injury. Already, Polk has drawn solid reviews from top Patriots observers. All that's indicative of his potential.

The Patriots need production from their wide receivers. Douglas’ contributions, if he stays healthy, are a given. Outside of that, Polk will be looked upon to be the top contributor to a revamped
Patriots' offense led by fellow rookie, Maye.

Pro Football Network signaled they feel he’s ready to do just that. It's a good sign. The Patriots will need their offensive skill players to deliver. If Maye is the starter at QB, and Polk does what is suggested, the team may very well be a playoff contender again. Don’t count them out.
